It feels good to be grateful for all the things that happened in our lives – it could be as simple as being able to bond with your grandparents or as grand as winning the lottery. However, we’re no hypocrites. There are times when it feels hard to be grateful, especially if it seems like everything is going against your favor. Thankfully, Thanksgiving Day is a thing in our country, which only means we get to celebrate gratitude and appreciation for all the good things in our lives.
If you’re a part of a Spanish household or are trying to learn the language, there’s no better way to spend this holiday by watching movies with your family. And no, you don’t have to worry about buying cinema tickets and sitting for hours in traffic jam. You just need a streaming service like Go Latino TV, Hulu, or Netflix. Let’s start!
Coco
Having the opportunity to watch this movie on the big screen during its release was a beautiful experience. The movie is about a young boy named Miguel who dreams of becoming a famous musician. But when he tries to follow in the footsteps of his idol, he ends up in the Land of the Dead where he meets his deceased ancestors and actually learns about his family’s history. We recommend this movie because Thanksgiving Day should also be a time to be grateful to our loved ones who have passed away and how they made our lives better.
The Menu
If you’re looking for a horror comedy film, you’ve got to watch The Menu. While it’s originally an English movie, there’s a Spanish version (El Menú) that, for us, is way better to watch. It’s all about a group of wealthy people who go to a fancy restaurant on an island. While it’s exciting at first, things take a horrifying turn when they realize that the chef has a sinister plan. Why did we recommend this movie for Thanksgiving? It teaches us to be grateful for the simple things in life. That’s all we could say because we don’t want to spoil it for you.
La familia Bélier
Similar to The Menu, this movie is originally French, but there’s a Spanish version of it as well. It’s a beautiful movie about a deaf family with only one hearing daughter, Paula. It gives us a point-of-view of what it’s like to live with a deaf family, and their challenges trying to communicate with everyone around them. Paula has a dream of her own, but pursuing that dream may mean leaving her family behind. This film is a beautiful story that will make you feel very grateful for your family and the lengths they will go because of their unconditional love. This movie can be watched on various streaming services, including Amazon Prime, Planet Dish, and Apple TV+.
Todo sobre mi madre
Todo sobre mi madre is a Spanish movie about a woman named Manuela whose son dies in a car accident. She goes on a journey to find her son’s father, who she left a long time ago. Along the way, she meets many different people and learns about herself and her life. Honestly, it’s a good movie to watch on Thanksgiving because it’s a great story about love, family, and finding your way in life. It reminds us to be grateful for the people in our lives and to never give up on our dreams.
Y tu mamá también
Feeling grateful for your best friend? This movie might be your next favorite. Y tu mamá también (And Your Mother Too) is about two best friends who go on a road trip with an older woman, while their girlfriends take a trip to Italy. Already ready to live as bachelors with their raging hormones, they’ll learn a lot about life and friendship and understand the complexities of human relationships.
The Bottom Line
Thanksgiving Day doesn’t require a grand celebration every time. Sometimes, all it takes is sharing a complete meal with all of your loved ones then gathering to watch beautiful movies that capture the essence of this holiday. This upcoming Thanksgiving, even though there are a lot of things happening in our lives, let’s take a moment to be grateful for all the blessings and challenges we’ve experienced this year. Happy Thanksgiving in advance!
